
OKAY LET'S BE SERIOUS FOR A MINUTE - BUT NOT A SECOND LONGER
I've had oral cancer three times in the
last five years. I refer to myself now as acancer veteran. I underwent
major
surgery with over 14 hours in the operating theatre to remove half my jaw and
rebuild it with a
chest flap. I have had a tumour lazered away and recently
underwent four weeks of pretty tough
radiotherapy. I've had at least ten minor
operations under general anaesthetic for biopsies. BUT I am a
very lucky man
and I know it! I am a survivor and I have been brilliantly treated by the team
at
I
know what cancer is all about. My mother and mother in law, and sister in law
have
all had breast cancer and another sister in law also has cancer. My father
had
prostrate cancer and a close friend has been diagnosed with terminal skin
cancer.
My best friend's father died of lung cancer - I could go on but I guess
the picture is pretty clear.
Cancer is with us all, all the time.

To raise
awareness of mouth cancer. Mouth cancer kills one person every 3 hours in the

Mouth Cancer Foundation who support patients and generate awareness of the
cancer.
3. To support mouth cancer
patients in hospital who may not be aware how many of us are out here - not
only surviving but thriving. I was told I would never speak again let alone
sing.

To support
all cancer patients and give them a laugh - goodness knows they need one.
Surgery and radiotherapy just need to be lightened up a little. (I would have
written about chemotherapy but I haven't had that (yet) and I'll stick to what
I know.)

MacMillan Cancer Nurses and the excellent work they do and encourage people to
raise money on their behalf - or just give.
